Goebel's poetic fantasy . . . raises the Archive set [of Biber's Mystery Sonatas] on to an altogether high plane . . . Time and again I was carried along by Goebel's resonant sonorities, his lively sense of colour and his ability to make strong and telling contrasts. Furthermore there is both an affecting poignancy and a nobility of sentiment in his playing.
